Formed in 2016, Soda City Riot immediately found their way in the punk scene by playing anthem-style street punk. Songs dealing with hometown politics and devilish televangelist quickly formed the first 3-song single release, ironically called “The First E.P.” This was released in 2016 on streaming platforms as well as handmade and hand numbered CDs.
Later in 2016 while on a roll with song writing the band recorded and released their first full length album titled “We’re Not PC! Fuck You!”. This included the song “Everybody’s Broke” which shared the disgust in the current broken political system leaving many of us with empty wallets. “Phonies” was another standout which dealt with the topic of internet loudmouths posting time and time again to force their dumbass opinions onto the rest of the world.
SCR played around the Southeast doing short runs down to Florida and back or making quick tours hitting Charlotte, NC, Charleston, SC, Atlanta, GA, Savannah, GA, Augusta, GA, and Wilmington, NC. After one small show in Sumter, SCR was approached by Larry Parker, who wanted SCR to be the first release on his new record label River Monster Records. Along with Hale Bopp Astronauts, from Charleston, SC, the two bands released a split 7” through River Monster Records.
The band took a break during 2017-2018 after temporarily losing Roger. They continued to play as a trio but then decided to take some time off. Once Roger returned and the group decided they needed to continue. Soon after, Roger Hawkins, Billy Riot, and Eric Maddox welcomed friend and bassist Travis Nicholson and guitarist Alex Hunter.
In 2021, the band announced that they would be working with ProRawk Records to release future music and possibly re-release some of the original recordings.
